Butler County receives Statewide Recognition for Campaign for Organ Donation

The Kentucky Circuit Court Clerks' Trust For Life is honoring 28 counties for exemplary achievements in educating communities about the life saving gift of organ donation. Butler County is one of them.

MPD makes arrest in burglary

On Wednesday, March 21 officers with the Morgantown Police Department responded to A&P Self Storage on Ashley Drive in reference to a burglary. Upon arrival officers observed several units broken into. Through investigation officers obtained a recorded statement from one of the involved parties. As interviews were conducted a suspect Brandon Paul Johnson of Morgantown was subsequently arrested.

Senate and House members involved in conference committee negotiations on the state budget.

FRANKFORT – There are always surprises in legislative sessions. But one safe assumption when a state budget must be approved is that Kentucky Senate and House members will form a committee late in the session to iron out differences between each chamber’s preferred state spending plan.

Magistrates discuss road projects, solid waste and approve bids

Butler County Fiscal Court met in regular session on Monday, March 12 with all magistrates -  Stevie Givens, Johnny Tuck, Chad Tyree, David Whittinghill, and Bobby Moore - in attendance.

Stockman's Association Annual Meeting – March 22nd

The annual meeting of the Butler County Stockman’s Association will be Thursday, March 22nd at 6:00 p.m. at the Butler County Extension Office.  There will be a sponsored meal, an educational presentation, and a short business meeting.  We will also announce the winners of this year’s forage contest.

Board recognizes schools for accreditation, sets calendar for rest of the school year

The Butler County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, March 13th at 6:30 p.m. in the Butler County Education Complex.  Members of the Board who were present were Amy Hood, Delbert Johnson, Debbie Hammers, Ryan Daugherty, and Superintendent Scott Howard.

Tourism Commission meets, hears requests

The Morgantown-Butler County Tourism Commission met on February 27, 2018, at Morgantown City Hall.  Members in attendance were Judge-Executive David Fields, Mayor Billy Phelps, Roger Southerland, Brenda Longhofer, Diane Dyer, Dale Willis, and Becky Hankins.  Absent were Terrell House and Doug Odle.

Multiple topics discussed at school safety forum

Butler County Schools held its first ever "Safety Forum" on Thursday night, March 8, in the Butler County High School Auditorium. Scott Howard, Superintendent of Butler County Schools, addressed a large crowd along with a safety panel consisting of Director of Transportation Jeff Jennings, Morgantown Police Chief Giles Taylor and Butler County Sheriff Scottie Ward.

BC Drug Free supports Kick Butt Day; Ben Chandler speaks to group

"Samantha the Skunk" anti-smoking skit for the group

The Butler County Drug-Free Coalition held their monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 7th at the Butler County Educational Complex.  The minutes were read and approved. 
The BC Drug-Free Youth presented "Samantha the Skunk" anti-smoking skit for the group.  The skit will be performed in both elementary schools in the county for the primary grades.
Former Kentucky Attorney General Ben Chandler was the principal speaker for the meeting.

Candidate Chad Tyree- Butler County Judge Executive

I am a strong supporter of conservative principles.  I grew up working the hay fields and tobacco patches of Butler County, learning in our public schools, and growing my Christian faith in Union Missionary Baptist Church.
