Morgantown City Council Meeting

The Morgantown City Council held their monthly meeting on April 12th at the Eva J. Hawes Building.  All members were in attendance, Dustin Embry, Sharon Johnson, Russell Givens, Gary Southerland, Jason Gaskey, and Sterling White.

Fiscal Court: Roads, K-9, and Computers

Chad Tyree, Johnny Tuck and Stevie Givens

The Butler County Fiscal Court met in regular session on April 9th at the Butler County Courthouse.  All magistrates were in attendance, Stevie Givens, Johnny Tuck, Chad Tyree, David Whittinghill and Bobby Moore.
The first item on the agenda was the approval of a resolution to accept Russellville Street in Rochester into the County Road System once the state has paved the street.

Traffic stop leads to seizure of drugs, cash, and gun

The Butler County Sheriff Department conducted a traffic stop on Brownsville Road this past weekend that resulted in the seizure of drugs, firearm, and money. 
Deputies Ronald Cox and Talon Gary detained the vehicle for failure to come to a complete stop at a stop sign.  The owner of the car, Tayann McKenna, identified the passengers sd Jerry St. Clair, Steven Cardwell, and Sydnee Cameron.

Moore installs pantry - part of grassroots movement

Erin Moore of Morgantown decided it was time to take action with “The Little Free Pantry” movement.  Moore ordered a little pantry but could not wait for it to arrive so he built one and placed it on his property that joins the walking track at the Charles T. Black City Park.
Friends and family helped Moore stock the pantry with nonperishable food and paper products.

Kentucky General Assembly’s 2018 session ends

FRANKFORT -- The Kentucky General Assembly’s 2018 regular session ended this evening, capping off a session in which lawmakers approved the state’s next two-year budget and numerous other measures that will affect people throughout the state.

Most new laws – those that come from legislation that don’t contain emergency clauses or different specified effective dates – will go into effect in mid-July.

This Week at the State Capitol

House Speaker Pro Tem David Osborne joined the applause shortly after he brought down the gavel to adjourn the House for the final time in the General Assembly’s 2018 Regular Session.

 

 

FRANKFORT -- State lawmakers put the finishing touches on the General Assembly’s 2018 session this week by overriding gubernatorial vetoes, most notably on the state budget and tax reform legislation, and passing bills right up to the session’s final hours.

 

  By overriding vetoes this week, lawmakers ensured that their preferred versions of the budget and tax measures become law.

What's at stake for Kentucky teachers and public education in the vetoed budget bill?

Gov. Matt Bevin vetoed a two-year budget proposal and tax overhaul on Monday despite calls from the statewide teachers union to spare the bills and protect funding for public education.


"I cannot support a proposal that ignores fiscal reality and continues to kick the can of financial responsibility down the road," Bevin said in a statement defending his veto of the budget.

Kentucky's pension reform bill becomes law Tuesday night. Here's what it does for teachers

The controversial pension reform bill the state legislature passed late last month can become law automatically if Gov. Matt Bevin doesn't veto it by midnight Tuesday.


Senate Bill 151, the final version of the legislature's pension reform bill, was sent to the governor's desk March 29.
