Sales tax exemption a win for Kentucky nonprofits

The last session of the Kentucky General Assembly resulted in a much-awaited gift for nonprofit organizations: an exemption from sales tax.


The exemption was a legislative priority of the Kentucky Nonprofit Network, a state association of nonprofits, and the Center for Nonprofit Excellence, which is Louisville’s nonprofit hub.

WKU cuts ties with Confucius Institute, ending 9-year relationship

Western Kentucky University announced Monday it would be cutting ties with its Confucius Institute. It marked the end of a nine-year relationship with the Chinese language and cultural education program that brought instruction to 47 public schools in 20 Kentucky school districts using teachers recruited from China.

Two BCHS Juniors Participating in Kentucky's Governor's Scholars Program

Butler County High School will have two Juniors participating in the Kentucky Governor's Scholars Program this summer.  Camryn Newland and Emily Tyree were selected among the state's top candidates for this elite summer education program.  Possible GSP campuses this year are Morehead State University, Centre College, or Bellarmine University

Camryn is the daughter of Mike and Donna Newland and plans to pursue a degree in Microbiology after graduating from BCHS in May 2020.

Warren RECC Scholarship Applications Now Available

April 15, 2019 (Bowling Green, Ky) Applications for the 2019 Warren RECC Scholarship are now available. Warren RECC will award up to seven $1,500 scholarships to high school seniors and non-traditional students pursuing post-secondary training at an accredited degree-granting institution. 

Warren RECC was created in 1938 by members of the local community and we are proudly still locally owned and operated. We are pleased to support our students and their educational pursuits as part of our commitment to the communities we serve.

Natalie Suoy Recognized as DAR Good Citizen

The Butler County Chapter NSDAR is recognizing Senior Natalie Suoy as the BCHS Class of 2018-19 Good Citizen. This award is presented to a high school senior who possesses the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. Natalie is the daughter of Jennifer and John Suoy of Morgantown.

In high school Natalie has participated in various programs the school offers including: NJROTC where she has served as Public Affairs Officer, Operations Officer and also Drill Team Commander: FBLA where she served as Chapter Parliamentarian; TSA and other groups.

Former Crossmen Members Reunite With New Vocal Group

A new southern gospel quartet has formed in south central Kentucky with some familiar faces, and while familiarity is plentiful with their music, it's a new look and sound for the four men that make "United."

All former members of the now retired Crossmen, the guys had plenty of ups and downs and mixed emotion on their journeys from The Crossmen to today, but their love for sharing gospel music and their close friendships drew them all back to where their shared roots began.

Kentucky School Board Insurance Trust (KSBIT) Members to Receive $5 Million Disbursement

An additional $5 million is in the process of being disbursed to Kentucky school systems and colleges that were assessed in 2014 to rehabilitate the Kentucky School Boards Insurance Trust (KSBIT).  This is the result, in part, of a lawsuit and settlement handled by English, Lucas, Priest & Owsley attorneys, Michael Owsley and Sarah Jarboe, both of whom are partners in the firm. They worked with attorneys from the Kentucky Department of Insurance (DOI) and Public Protection Cabinet to achieve this outcome.

MPD Drug Arrest

The Morgantown Police received a tip about a suspicious silver truck with suspicious items in the bed of the truck at Sonic. Morgantown City Police conducted a routine traffic stop on Jenkins Blvd.
