BUTLER WATER CELEBRATES NATIONAL DRINKING WATER WEEK

(Morgantown, KY)- Butler Water kicked off this year’s National Drinking Water Week with an invitation to “Protect the Source” throughout Butler County and across the region.

Butler Water, Kentucky Rural Water Association, the American Water Works Association and water utilities nationwide will celebrate National Drinking Water Week (May 5-11) by recognizing the vital role drinking water plays in daily lives.  Focus will be placed on ways in which water consumers can take personal responsibility in caring for their tap water and protecting its source.

MPD makes assault and drug arrest on Thomas Street

 On Friday , April 26, 2019, at approximately 4:30 pm the Morgantown Police Department received a call about an out of control combative female at 102 Thomas Street in Morgantown. Upon officers arrival and subsequent investigation, the out of control female was determined to be Kimberly Renae Smith, age 46 of Morgantown.

Magistrates approve several items, split on a mowing contract; Judge presents budget $300K less that last year

Butler County Fiscal Court held its bi-monthly meeting on Monday, April 22nd at the Butler County Courthouse.  All magistrates were in attendance - Stevie Givens, Kevin Phelps, Timmy Givens, Dillon Bryant, and David Whittinghill.

Melissa Mudd with Hamilton and Ryker spoke to the court concerning the staffing company and their office in Morgantown. 

Amanda White, executive director of the Boys and Girls Club of Butler County, asked the court for an annual contribution of $12,500.  White shared information about the club.

Sales tax exemption a win for Kentucky nonprofits

The last session of the Kentucky General Assembly resulted in a much-awaited gift for nonprofit organizations: an exemption from sales tax.


The exemption was a legislative priority of the Kentucky Nonprofit Network, a state association of nonprofits, and the Center for Nonprofit Excellence, which is Louisville’s nonprofit hub.

WKU cuts ties with Confucius Institute, ending 9-year relationship

Western Kentucky University announced Monday it would be cutting ties with its Confucius Institute. It marked the end of a nine-year relationship with the Chinese language and cultural education program that brought instruction to 47 public schools in 20 Kentucky school districts using teachers recruited from China.
