2019 Memorial Day Program

The Annual Memorial Day Program took place on the Butler County courthouse lawn on Monday, May 27. The event was hosted by the General Richard Butler Chapter Sons of the American Revolution. A large crowd gathered to remember those that had fallen. Chapter President Roger Givens welcomed everyone and a presentation of colors by the Sons of the American Revolution color guard took place. Rob Hankins led the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the singing of the National Anthem by Rachel Hinton.

A section of KY 70 in Butler County will temporarily close in early June for bridge repair

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (May 29, 2019) – A project to upgrade a bridge will temporarily close a section of KY 70 in Butler County beginning in early June. The KY 70 bridge over Panther Creek at mile point 4.4 will be closed for approximately 40 days while the bridge is upgraded as part of the Bridging Kentucky Program. The project is expected to begin on June 10.

MPD makes drug arrest on Taylor Street

On Sunday, May 26, 2019, at approximately 4:00 pm, Officers with the Morgantown Police Department executed a search warrant at 212 Taylor Street, the residence of Patsy A. Deel, DOB: 07/16/1971, after receiving several complaints of possible narcotics activity and as a result of an on-going investigation.

James Christopher Holman Scholarship Fund announces inaugural recipient

Jesse Greathouse, Tracy Morrison, Carlee Mitchell, Jim Holman, Melba Holman, Connie Greathouse, Ricky Greathouse, Lillian Greathouse, Jacob Greathouse, and Bryan Barks.

Carlee Mitchell of Morgantown, Ky., was named the first recipient of the James Christopher Holman Scholarship Fund on May 23 at the Morgantown Chamber of Commerce. The award was presented by Donald Smith, President of the College Heights Foundation, at a luncheon hosted by Morgantown Bank and Trust, where Chris was employed at the time of his passing.
The scholarship fund was established by friends and family of Chris Holman to support graduates of Butler County High School attending WKU who are pursuing a degree in business or agriculture.

State releases county unemployment data for April 2019; Butler's rate 4.1 percent

FRANKFORT-- Unemployment rates fell in 89 Kentucky counties between April 2018 and April 2019, rose in 21 and stayed the same in 10 counties, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.

ATC Students Sign with SKY FAME

Butler County ATC students sign a deal with SKYFAME and local Industry. Three Industrial Maintenance students qualified for the SKYFAME program and secured jobs at Delta Faucet in Morgantown and Fritz Winter in Franklin. Duane Daniel and Justin Elms will be sponsored by Delta Faucet. Tristan Phelps will be sponsored by Fritz Winter.

McConnell files bill to raise legal age to buy tobacco products to 21, with some provisions Kentucky health advocates wanted

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell today introduced his promised bill to raise to 21 from 18 the legal age to buy tobacco products in the United States, in response to what he called a public-health epidemic of electronic-cigarette use by teenagers.

Butler County Grand Jury Indictments

The Butler County Grand Jury returned indictments against 47 individuals on May 14, 2019. Charges include attempted theft, drug trafficking, burglary, and possession of methamphetamine.

City Council hears reports from various departments; "More Like Home" budget proposal presented
