The State of the City address falls on a unique time in the year for the City; it comes at the beginning of the new calendar year in the middle of the budget fiscal year.  In this way, the State of the City is simultaneously a year in review and a progress checkup.  This is an opportunity to show the city's achievements, in addition to, informing the Council and community about the current state and the future of our town.

Morgantown Chief of Police Giles Taylor presented the following report at the Morgantown City Council meeting on January 11th.

All calls were answered with a 5 minute average response time.

Mike Wilson Announces Candidacy for State House of Representatives in District 17

Mike Wilson of Bowling Green declared his candidacy for the 17th District of the Kentucky House of Representatives this morning.  He has submitted his declaration to file with the Secretary of State.
Wilson is a native of Bowling Green and Warren County.  He is a graduate of Warren East High School and received his BA in Economics from Western Kentucky University in 1990.  He is currently Director of Facilities with Warren County Public Schools.

Traffic stop leads to seizure of drugs, cash

FORDSVILLE, Ky. — A traffic stop in Fordsville led to the arrest of a Morgantown man for drug trafficking and other charges.

According to Kentucky State Police Post 16, around 5:30 p.m. Thursday evening, the KSP conducted a traffic stop in Fordsville Troopers identified the driver as Michael C. Whitsell, 33, of Morgantown, Kentucky.

The Butler County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to 2307 Brownsville Road, for a welfare check on Natasha M. Woosley (DOB 11/8/83) on December 31st.

2017 Butler County Coroner's Office Year End Report

In 2017, Butler County Corner, Marty Jones, responded to 30 calls and 18 Provisional Death Reports for Cremation.  The thirty calls involved the following:

24    Natural Deaths
  4    Accidental Deaths  (1 Shooting, 1 Drowning, and 2 Vehicle Fatalities)
  2    Suicides

BG Area Chamber releases December 2017 Jobs Report for 10-county region

There are currently 6,149 open positions in the 10-county region and 5,105 unemployed. Going out 50 miles from our region, the number of open positions, jumps to more than 38,000. South Central Kentucky’s businesses are suffering. Over the past five years, we have worked diligently to ensure a fully functioning, high performing public workforce system is available to serve their needs.
