Butler County Extension Office has a new home

The old Pamida building has been vacant for a little over seven years now. During this time many in town have speculated what its new purpose in our lives would be.  All those rumors of groceries stores, skating rinks, etc. can be now put to rest because it is the new home of the Butler County Extension Office.

Butler County Extension Service Grand Opening/Ribbon Cutting – November 7th

The Butler County Extension Service will host a Grand Opening Celebration on Wednesday, November 7th at its new location of 102 Parkway Lane, Morgantown, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

A new 'Tornado Alley' is forming, and Kentucky may be in its path

Kentucky is slowly becoming part of a new "Tornado Alley" in America.

A study shows that in the last 40 years, tornadoes have increased in the Midwest and the Southeast, which has been named "Dixie Alley." That includes Kentucky and Indiana, as well as portions of Tennessee, Illinois, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas and Missouri.

Kentucky leads nation in children in care of relatives

Kentucky continues to lead the nation with the highest rate of children in the care of relatives who aren’t their parents, according to U.S. census data reported by Kentucky Youth Advocates.

From 2016 to 2018, the advocacy group reports that 9 percent of Kentucky children were being raised by a relative. That’s more than double the national rate of 4 percent, a news release from the group said.

MEETING: Morgantown City Council

Morgantown City Council met in regular session on Thursday, October 11th at the Eva J. Hawes Agriculture and Expo Center.  All council members - Dustin Embry, Sharon Johnson, Russell Givens, Gary Southerland, Jason  Gaskey, and Sterling White were in attendance.
The council approved the reappointment of Pam Porter to the Housing Authority Board.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Family Court Judge Mike McKown, Morgantown Mayor Billy Phelps, and Butler County Judge Executive David Fields declared October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Butler County on Wednesday, October 10th at the Butler County Courthouse.
The purpose of the event is to bring awareness to a problem that is affecting many families in Kentucky; and that is: “Domestic Violence.

Fiscal Court approves donation to Boys & Girls Club

Amanda White of the Butler County Boys & Girls Club addresses the court.

The Butler County Fiscal Court met in regular session on Monday, October 8th at the Butler County Courthouse. All magistrates were in attendance.
Amanda White from the Butler County Boys & Girls Club reported to the court on the activities of the Club.
"We are serving an average of 92 children at the Morgantown Club and 54 at North Butler Elementary location daily," said White.
The court approved a donation of $12,500 to the club.
