Butler double murder suspect returns to court

 MORGANTOWN – A Butler County man accused of fatally shooting a retired minister and his wife returned to court Thursday with a new defense team that has filed several motions on his behalf.

Kevin Dye, 35, of Morgantown, appeared in Butler Circuit Court for a pretrial conference in his case. He is charged with two counts of murder, convicted felon in possession of a handgun and receiving stolen property (firearm).

Dye is accused of killing Kenneth Neafus, 71, and his wife, Dorothy, 70.

Dog Attacks Three Individuals

The Butler County Sheriff's office responded to a dog attack on Waverly School Road in the Leonard Oak community on September 21st.  According to Deputy Heath West, Jamie Proctor, 43, of Morgantown and Joshua Shealy,24, were having an argument when Kimberly Brown, 45, stepped between them.  The dog, a mix-breed, owned by Shealy, attacked all three individuals.  Proctor's right arm was severely injured, and he was air-lifted from the Charles Black City Park.  Shealy received injuries to both arms and was transported to the Medical Center in Bowling Green by Butler County EMS.  Brown also sus

Guthrie Announces Drug-Free Communities Grants to Morgantown, Glasgow

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) today announced that the Allies for Substance Abuse Prevention in Glasgow and the Butler County Drug Free Coalition in Morgantown will both receive Office of National Drug Control Policy “Drug-Free Communities” Support Program grants.

Bob Crawford Appointed New Board Member

Warren RECC is pleased to announce that Bob Crawford has been selected to represent Grayson County on its Board of Directors.  He replaces B.W. Lyons, who recently retired from the Board after 34 years of service to Warren RECC and its members.

Crawford is a lifelong resident of Grayson County and serves as secretary-treasurer for the Leitchfield/Grayson County Industrial Development Corporation.

Butler County Farm Bureau 79th Annual Meeting

Outstanding Young Farm Family C.W. and Michelle Taylor.

Tuesday, September 12, members of the Butler County Farm Bureau gathered at the Eva J. Hawes Agricultural Center for the 79th annual membership meeting.  After a welcome by Shane Wells and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Maggie Drake, Patrick Daugherty provided the invocation.  After a dinner prepared by Green River Catering, Vice President Gregory Drake II introduced the guests.

Joey Kirby presented the Outstanding Young Farm Family award to the C.W. and Michelle Taylor, and children Garrison and Mollie.  The Taylors have cows, chicken houses, and crops.

MEETING: Morgantown City Council

Butler County Drug-Free Coalition employees Rhonda Vaughn and Ali Johnson presented Mayor Phelps with new signs for the park that say, “Young lungs at play. This is a smoke free zone.”

Morgantown City Council met Thursday night, September 14th, at the Eva J. Hawes Building.
