Barren River District Health Dept. reports 20 Covid -19 cases

The Barren River District Health Department is investigating 20 cases of COVID-19 in the Barren River District, two of which have recovered. Warren County has twelve cases, Simpson County has six, and Logan County has two. The news of positive cases has understandably raised concern for many community members. We should all prepare for the number of positive cases to continue to increase in the coming days, and take measures to calm anxiety and fear. Due to a limited amount of tests and supplies, only certain groups of people need be tested.

City suspends restaurant tax for three months, postpones due date for net profit tax amid COVID-19 pandemic

With an economy in turmoil due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the government’s response to it, Morgantown Mayor Billy Phelps, by executive order, announced on Wednesday that the city would be suspending its recently-enacted restaurant tax.  According to information released by Morgantown City Hall, the suspension of the tax will begin April 1 and run through June 30.

FISCAL COURT: Magistrates approve mowing bid for courthouse; approve jail budget

While practicing social distancing, the Butler County Fiscal Court held its regular meeting on Monday night at the Butler County Courthouse. All magistrates were in attendance: Stevie Givens, Kevin Phelps, Timmy Givens, David Whittinghill, and Dillon Bryant.

Chamber cancels some events, others placed on hold; decision on Catfish Festival to be made later

The Green River Catfish Festival for 2020 is now “on hold” as officials with the Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce scales back its activities in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Butler Water Reduces Hours of Operation Due to COVID-19 Precautions

Effective immediately, Butler Water will limit the operating hours for drive through window services due to COVID-19 precautions.  Butler Water will offer drive through window services on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-4:30 p.m. As announced last week, our lobby will remain closed to public access.

BC School District serves over 9,000 meals last week

School may not be in session right now in Butler County but that hasn’t prevented the local district from feeding school-age children throughout the community.  In fact, over 9,000 total meals - breakfast and lunch - were served last week as the Butler County School Nutrition Program initiated a service to make meals available at local schools and even for delivery by school employees from the Butler County Famil

The Barren River District Health Department is investigating its 2nd case of COVID-19 (2019 novel coronavirus) in a Warren County resident. The patient is an 80-year-old female.
