Joyce Helen Phelps

Joyce Helen Phelps,  age 81, a beacon of creativity and selflessness, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2024, at the Grayson Nursing and Rehab in Leitchfield, KY. Born on June 2, 1942, in Butler County, KY, Joyce's life was a testament to her faith-filled spirit and her boundless capacity to nurture and inspire those around her.
Joyce was a proud graduate of Butler County High School, where the foundations of her lifelong love for learning and community involvement were laid. Her professional journey was as diverse as it was fulfilling. She retired from TrimMasters in Leitchfield, KY, and was a cherished member of the Rabbit Flat General Baptist Church. Joyce's entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as she managed Doris Flowers and Gifts in Caneyville, KY, and her compassionate nature was evident during her tenure as a Radiologist at Wan's Clinic in Morgantown, KY. A woman of many talents, Joyce found joy in painting, quilting, and woodworking. Her hands were rarely still, as she was often found tending to her garden, working in her flowers, or perfecting her yard. These interests were not just hobbies but a reflection of her creative soul, which she generously shared with her family and community.

Joyce's legacy is carried on by her loving children, Karen Flener of Shepherdsville, KY, Russell Phelps (Angie) of Millwood, KY, and Tim Phelps (Sheila) of Cochran, GA. She was the proud grandmother to eight grandchildren: Adam Flener (Kim) of Louisville, KY, Alisha Andrews (Matt) of Louisville, KY, Jim T. Booth II (Renee) of Leitchfield, KY, Jill Scott of Sonora, KY, Jennifer Kurfiss (Jeff) of Morgantown, KY, Cole Phelps of Radcliff, KY, Tyler Phelps of Warner Robins, GA, and Madison Austin (Adam) of Lebanon, TN. Her joy was multiplied with the blessing of 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, who will carry her spirit forward. Joyce was a beloved sister to Jonell Bachelor of LaGrange, GA, JB Hunt (Fran) of Auburn, KY, and Gary Hunt of Aberdeen, KY. Her life was enriched by the love and laughter of several nieces and nephews, who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Glendon Phelps, her parents, Chester B. and Fosteen Flener Hunt, a great-granddaughter, Shelbi Layne Ward, and her siblings Loyde Hunt, Brenda Jones, Fran Henderson, and David Hunt. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she in theirs.

Those who knew Joyce will remember her as a pillar of strength and kindness. Her selfless nature was evident in every aspect of her life, from her dedication to her family to her service within her community. Joyce's faith was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her through life's challenges and triumphs with grace and resilience.
