Superintendent Scott Howard recognized the Butler County Middle School for being named one of the healthiest schools in the United States. Howard also reported to the board about recent events he had attended in the district and community.
“One of the best things I have gotten to do as superintendent was the ribbon cutting for Leader in Me at Morgantown Elementary.  I am so proud of what M.E.S. is doing with the program,” said Howard.
District facilities supervisor Jimmy Arnold gave a construction project update.  Some work has been done at B.C.H.S., B.C.M.S., and M.E.S. already.  The parking lot and outside lighting at B.C.H.S. started over fall break and continues. Safe entries, new seating for the auditorium and gym (B.C.H.S.), and bathroom renovations are some of the major parts of the project.
“Everything seems to be going well.  fall break really helped.  They were able to get a lot of work done with the schools being closed. Now workers are often limited to nights and weekends due to student safety,” said Arnold.
Vickie Cook reported to board concerning the 2014-15 KPREP scores.
“Butler County is one of the 120 districts in Kentucky and two of our schools were in the 704 schools in Kentucky that earned the distinction of "Proficient" on the 2014-15 KPREP test.  Butler County School District is classified as a "Proficient" district with an increase in the overall score of 66.5 and a percentile rank of 72.  Butler County High has an overall score of 70.8 with a 72 percentile ranking and is classified as "Proficient." The number of students that exited the school system being college and/or career ready increased from 60.9% to 70.1%. Our graduation rate increased from 91.2% to 92.5% but fell short of our target rate of 93.8%. The high school’s overall score was an increase from previous year score of 64.5," said Cook.
"North Butler Elementary is also classified as a "Proficient/Progressing" school.  The overall score for N.B.E. was 67.8%, an increase from previous year score of 66.1% and has a percentile ranking of 72. The school earned the additional label of "Progressing" due to meeting the school’s Annual Measurable Objective (AMO) and student participation rate," stated Cook.
"Morgantown Elementary had an increase in the overall score of 61.2% to 62.4% and had a percentile ranking of 50 and met their AMO and participation rate. The classification for M.E.S. is "Needs Improvement /Progressing," according to Cook.
Butler County Middle School had a slight decrease in the overall score from 65.3% to 64.7% with the percentile ranking of 64 and has a classification of "Needs Improvement."  The middle school was just short of reaching proficiency by 1.1 points.  The cut score was 65.8 and they were 64.7,” added Cook.

Myra Swift, counselor at North Butler Elementary, gave the school’s test score report.  Principal Josh Belcher was unable to attend the meeting due to training.

“North Butler has been classified as "Proficient/Progressing" for the 2nd consecutive year.  The school had an overall score of 67.8%. This score put N.B.E.S. in the 72nd percentile (top 28 percent) amongst Kentucky elementary schools.  N.B.E.S. reached its overall AMO goal (Annual Measurable Objective) of 67.1 that the Kentucky Department of Education assigned to the school,” stated Swift.

“We (N.B.E.S.) maxed out the Program Review part of the assessment with 100% thanks to Brandi and Daisy with the Family Resource Center.  We are very proud of our students and in addition to our great staff we have so many caring parents and volunteers at NBES,” added Swift.
