Walter "Buddy" Rhoades III

Walter "Buddy" Rhoades III, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2024, at the Hospice of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green, KY. Born on August 13, 1944, in Indianapolis, IN, Buddy's life was a testament to the enduring power of love, hard work, and dedication to family.

Buddy is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Jackie Guest Rhoades of Morgantown, KY, whom he married on April 21, 1962. Their enduring partnership was a cornerstone of their family, providing a strong foundation for their children and grandchildren. He was a devoted father to his son Tony Rhoades (Lisa) of Morgantown, KY, and a doting grandfather to his grandchildren Ciara Henry (Brandon) of Bowling Green, KY, Tyler Rhoades (Shelby) of Owensboro, KY, Britney Lee (Todd) of Morgantown, KY, Shelby White (Michael) of Owensboro, KY, Laura Flener (Keston) of Morgantown, KY, Jacqueline Rhoades of Morgantown, KY, and Emily and Becky Mullins both of Lexington, KY. His legacy continues through his nine great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride.

Buddy was preceded in death by his mother Juanita F. Moore Howard, his grandparents Roy and Melba Moore who raised him, and his daughter Tammy Mullins. His family was the centerpiece of his life, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Throughout his life, Buddy was a man of faith and community. He was a member of Cool Springs General Baptist Church, where he found strength and fellowship. His work ethic was unparalleled; he began his career at Holland Dairy, honed his skills as a butcher at Horn's Key Market, and after many years of dedicated service, he retired from IMCO Recycling.

Buddy's interests were as varied as they were passionate. He was an accomplished woodworker, creating beautiful pieces that reflected his attention to detail and craftsmanship. Antique collecting was another of Buddy's pursuits, each piece telling a story that he was always eager to share. His love for the outdoors was evident in his dedication to planting trees and flowers, which not only beautified his surroundings but also served as a symbol of his commitment to nurturing growth and life. Friends and family knew Buddy as a man who loved to engage in conversation, whether it was catching up with loved ones or sharing stories at Hoods Market, where he was a familiar and welcome presence. His friendly demeanor, generous spirit, and thoughtful nature made him a beloved figure in his community, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
