FRANKFORT – A bill that would move the governor’s race to even-numbered years passed out of the state Senate today, making it the first measure to clear the chamber this session.

In 2018 there were 29 coroner calls made by the Butler County Coroner’s Office and 22 provisional of death reports signed for cremation to be done.

51 calls made: 

20 were ruled natural deaths  

22 provisional of deaths signed for cremation in 2018 this increased by 4 with 18 in 2017. 

3 ruled accidental deaths (1 accidental fall, 1 accidental drowning, and 1 accidental farm related accident.) 

3 ruled suicides 

3 overdose deaths 

No homicides or vehicle fatalities occurred in Butler County in 2018.

FRANKFORT, KY – The Kentucky State Treasury has experienced another year of record unclaimed property returns under the leadership of Treasurer Allison Ball, her office announced. Treasurer Ball has returned more unclaimed property in a three year period than any state treasurer in Kentucky history. To date, her office has returned over $70,167,000 to Kentuckians. This record amount of returns includes $19,364 returned to Butler County since she took office.

On December 28, 2018, the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into the alleged exploitation of an adult.

The Butler County Grand Jury returned indictments against 28 individuals on December 26, 2018. Charges include sexual abuse, drugs, assault, criminal possession of forged instrument and drugs. All arraignments are set for January 8, 2019, at 10:00 am.

PARADISE - Commercial coal mining in Kentucky began in the western end of the state, and it was once home to the most production in the nation, the largest coal-fired power plant, and the biggest machine in the world to strip away earth and uncover coal.

Leanna Cantrell, 41, of Morgantown, is charged with second-degree manslaughter in the drowning death of her son, after allegedly leaving him unsupervised.

Clark Andrew Cantrell, age 4, of Morgantown, Ky., passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at his home in the Logansport Community.

 Cantrell was indicted by the Butler County Grand Jury on December 26, 2018.  She was arrested by the Kentucky State Police and lodged in the Butler County Jail.  Her arraignment is set for January 8, 2019.
