Winter weather impacts county; school district cancels in-person classes

A much-anticipated winter storm moved into south-central Kentucky on Sunday evening, January 14, and left approximately 2.5 inches of snow in many places.

Accompanying the snow were wind gusts and a big drop in temperatures.  According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, Monday's high temperature was 17 degrees with a low of around 8 degrees.  Tuesday's high is expected to be 18 degrees with a low of 5 degrees.  Temperatures will increase slightly to near freezing on Wednesday.

Some light snow was reported in Morgantown on Monday.

Butler County Schools announced on Monday that in-person classes would be canceled on Tuesday.  The district will be utilizing a non-traditional instruction day (NTI).  Paper material was sent home last week with elementary students, while middle and high school students are relying primarily on Google Classroom to access their work on Tuesday.  A district one-call notified parents of the change at approximately 1 p.m. on Monday.  As of the posting of this story, no decision has been made regarding school on Wednesday.  School, as well as banks and government offices, were already closed on Monday, January 15, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
