Spring Fling 2015

Saturday May 2nd hosted many important events for the community. The Kentucky Derby, softball and baseball, soccer, and of course Spring Fling on Main Street in Morgantown. Perhaps the most alluring portion of the day was the gorgeous weather conditions with a high in the 70's and barely a cloud in the sky.

Beginning at 10am and officially ending at 3pm, this years spring fling hosted a number of favorable conditions aside from the gorgeous weather. 23 vendors were set up for various reasons; selling local crafts, promoting businesses, supporting local organizations, selling delicious food, and unofficially giving away free kittens to honorable homes. The event also hosted three official events including a line dance, derby hat contest and a stick horse race.

At approximately 10:30am, volunteers gathered at the pedestrian crosswalk to take part in the line dance.

Registration for the derby hat contest began at 11:30am with the contest beginning at noon. The judges had a difficult decision on their hands in choosing a winner. After a bit of deliberation, Keira Mason, daughter of Everett and Tara Mason was chosen as the winner of the contest and awarded a cash prize. Participants were awarded complimentary Catfish Festival T-shirts.

Registration for the stick horse (mostly balloon horse) races began at 12:30pm with the races slated to begin at 1pm. the 2-4 age category yielded no registrations. The winner in the 5-7 category was Tinslea Belcher. The winner in the 8-10 category was Robert Luyet.

Nearing 3pm, the booths began to break down and Main Street was reopened to motorists.
