Skaggs leads Butler County over Warren Central

MORGANTOWN — Sophomore forward Ann Marie Skaggs recorded a double-double to lead Butler County over visiting Warren Central 56-43 on Tuesday, Jan. 2. 

The win allowed Butler County to halt a losing skid at three games. With the win, Butler County improved to 6-8.

Starting strong, Butler County outscored Warren Central 18-7 in the first quarter.

Butler County led 32-16 at halftime and remained in control after the intermission period.

The Lady Bears led 44-24 at the end of the third quarter. 

Skaggs scored 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to pace Butler County in the win. 

Accompanying Skaggs in double figures for Butler County, Ava Wilson netted 10 points. 

Butler County received scoring from nine different players. The additional scorers for Butler County were Taylor Leach (five points), Parker Willoughby (five points), Karrington Hunt (four points), Bailey Moore (four points), Maddie Jones (four points), Addison Miller (three points) and Myla Gill (two points). 

Butler County is scheduled to host Caverna for its next game at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6. 

 

Lady Bears push past Calloway County 51-46

RUSSELLVILLE — Butler County pushed past Calloway County 51-46 in the opening round of the H&H Holiday Hoopfest at Logan County on Wednesday, Dec. 27. 

Determined Butler County claimed the win after the two girls' high school basketball teams were tied 30-30 at halftime. 

Butler County shot 32.5 percent (13-of-40) from the field. The Lady Bears connected on one of five three-point field goal attempts.

Butler County shot 82.8 percent (24-of-29) from the free throw line. 

Taylor Leach scored 15 points to lead Butler County to the win.

Accompanying Leach in double figures for Butler County, Ava Wilson scored 13 points.

Finishing near double figures in Butler County's win, Ann Marie Skaggs netted eight points while Parker Willoughby tossed in six points and Karrington Hunt contributed three points. 

Rounding out Butler County's scoring, Bailey Moore, Addison Miller and Maddie Jones each chipped in two points. 

 

Lady Bears lose to Logan County in H&H Holiday Hoopfest 

RUSSELLVILLE — Butler County was limited offensively as host Logan County pulled away to win 58-45 in the H&H Holiday Hoopfest on Thursday, Dec. 28. 

Following the loss, Butler County dropped to 5-6. 

Logan County, which improved to 8-3 after posting the win, shot 47.8 percent (22-of-46) from the field. The Lady Cougars made three of seven three-point field goal attempts.

Thriving in a key area, Logan County shot 84.6 percent (11-of-13) from the free throw line. 

Logan County used a balanced offensive attack to claim the win. Leading four Logan County scorers in double figures, Emily Borders netted a game-high 15 points.

Accompanying Borders in double figures for Logan County, Brenley Adler scored 13 points while Reese Wetton and TaKyiah Mason netted 12 points apiece. 

Rounding out Logan County's scoring, Kyla Bilyeu tallied six points. 

Butler County shot only 29.1 percent (16-of-55) from the field. The Lady Bears made one of eight three-point field goal attempts.

However, Butler County managed to shoot 70.6 percent (12-of-17) from the free throw line and outrebound Logan County 39-20. 

Ava Wilson led Butler County with a double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling down a game-high 17 rebounds.

Accompanying Wilson in double figures for Butler County, Ann Marie Skaggs netted 10 points. 

Butler County received scoring from six different players. 

Narrowly missing double figures for Butler County, Addison Miller scored nine points.

The additional scorers for Butler County were Bailey Moore (seven points), Parker Willoughby (four points) and Taylor Leach (two points).
