On Tuesday, February 27th, Sherry Coleman Webster retired after working 43 years in local dentists’ offices.  After attending Bowling Green Vocational School to become a dental assistant, she began her career with Dr.  Terry Tippin in Morgantown in the spring of 1975.  She also worked for Dr. Will Johnson and Dr. Patrick Maddy.  When Bluegrass Oral Health bought Dr. Maddy’s business, she became their office manager and has worked for them for ten years.

Sherry said, “I knew at a young age what I wanted to do.  My mom always took me to the dentist regularly.  I watched the girls who worked there and knew I wanted to do that.  One of the girls I watched when I was a young girl was Stella Barrow. She became my mentor, and I had the opportunity to work with her for many years.  I have made life-long friendships with co-workers through the years.  All of us are family.  I was really fortunate to always have a job in Morgantown. I got to see kids grow up and then see their kids grow up.  I had patients start at three-years-old, and now they’re in their forties.”  She said her patients became her friends over the years. “It was always a pleasure to see them come back over the years.  I loved the one-on-one with people.  I’ve gotten to know a lot of people over the years.”

Webster said she never quit a job or got fired from a job. She worked in four different locations in Morgantown and said she loved working in the building next to Coleman Brothers.  “It made it special working by my brother, my dad, my cousin, and my uncle.” She worked next to their family business for 35 years. She saw lots of changes in her 43 years of working, including not using gloves, not wearing masks, and everything being on paper when she first started. She said now everything is computerized, x-rays are digital, patients have the option to get an implant instead of a partial or a bridge, and patients are able to see what the dentist sees with intraoral cameras.

Sherry is a member of Barnett’s Lick Baptist Church and is President of Butler County VFW Auxiliary, Post 5837.  She looks forward to spending time and traveling with her husband, Poochy Rock Webster.  She is also looking forward to spending time with her son, Jake Hall, his wife, Shanna, and her six-month-old grandson, Wick. Sherry said, “The dentists and staff at Bluegrass Oral Health have been great to work with, and I will miss them.  I am already planning to go see them on their lunch breaks.”
