SEWS Spirit for Education Scholarship Award

Grant Newland

BOWLING GREEN, KY/MAY 5, 2017 – Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. has announced the 2017 recipients of its Spirit for Education Scholarship: Grant Newland, son of Mike Newland of Morgantown KY. Grant is a senior at Butler County High School, in Morgantown KY. Grant plans to attend Western Kentucky University to study Foreign Languages.
The Sumitomo Spirit for Education Program was created in 1997 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the founding of Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. This year the scholarship provides a one-time award of $3,000 to children of associates who plan on attending an accredited college, university, or vocational school in honor of the 30th anniversary of Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc.
Awards are selected from the following criteria:

  • Academic Achievement and Potential
  • Extracurricular Activities, Community Service, and work Experience
  • Appraisal Letters from Teachers or Community Leaders
  • Personal Statement of Goals

Applications we accepted from children of associates from SEWS facilities across the United States, with four seniors receiving the award. This program has awarded 88 scholarships to date, totaling over $130,000 in the 20 years of its existence. We wish our winners success in their future endeavors!
