Senator Embry Reappointed to Southern Legislative Conference's Agriculture and Rural Development Committee

State Senator C.B. Embry of Morgantown was reappointed to the Southern Legislative Conference’s (SLC) Agriculture and Rural Development Committee by Kentucky Senate President Robert Stivers.

The Southern Legislative Conference is a 15-state subgroup of the Council for State Governments. According to SLC, the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee’s agenda focuses on issues critical to the future of farming and farm communities. As the "engine of the economy," agriculture constitutes a vital sector of the economies of most Southern states. A principal focus of the Committee's work centers on rural development and rural communities, convening a series of sessions that investigates the differences (and surprising similarities) between rural and urban America and how to begin to bridge the divides between these communities.

“Agriculture plays a central role in Kentucky’s economy and tradition, and it is an honor to be reappointed to a committee that is so important, especially in my district,” said Senator Embry. “I look forward to discussing with my fellow state leaders issues facing the agriculture industry and rural America.”

The SLC will convene for its 71st Annual Meeting on July 29-August 2 in Biloxi, Mississippi. According to the SLC, the SLC Annual Meeting provides policymakers a forum for engaging regional and national policy experts on the issues that matter most to them and their constituents. Of equal benefit, numerous informal discussions allow state government officials to share their experiences with others facing similar challenges and opportunities, a hallmark of the SLC Annual Meeting. Regional and national policy experts address an array of topics germane to the Conference’s six standing committees, which serve as the foundation for policy discussions.

Senator C.B. Embry, JR (R-Morgantown) represents the 6th District including Butler, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, and Ohio Counties. He is Vice Chair of Veterans, Military Affairs, & Public Protection Committee and co-chairman of the Tobacco Settlement Agreement Fund Oversight Committee. He also serves as a member of the Agriculture Committee, the Natural Resources and Energy Committee, the Transportation Committee, and the Budget Review Subcommittee on Education.
