Riverside Park: Public Hearing held, city applying for $80K grant

Over 60 individuals turned out on Tuesday, April 3rd, at the Eva J. Hawes Building in support of the Riverside Park – a proposed development area at the boat ramp in Morgantown.  The City of Morgantown is applying for a $80,000 grant for this project from the Department of Local Government.  The property is being donated to the city from Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce at no cost.  The property is located off Old River Road on the south side of Green River (past the Boogie Barn).

The project will consist of concrete installations (benches, trash cans, parking lot, etc.) that will be resistant to flood waters and easily washable in the event of a flood.  Parking will be provided for boat trailers and trucks, as well as regular-sized vehicles.  The area will be beneficial to walkers, kayakers, canoers and fishermen, along with those wanting a quiet place to enjoy the riverfront.

Infrastructure to be added includes:

-0.77 mile gravel trail

-Restroom facility

-13,000 square foot concrete parking lot

-Trash cans and benches

-Pavilion on the river bank

-Historical/Educational Signage

-Bike Signage

The Chamber has stated that they would potentially like to bring back events to this area and utilize the property on the interior of the walking trail.  The Trail Town group will be able to utilize this space as a stop for their Green River Ramble.
