The evening kicked off with great food catered by Gone Fishin, with State Representative Jim Decesare hosting the program.  Representative Decesare began the night of speakers praising Governor Matt Bevin for addressing the issue of pensions in Kentucky. Decesare explained the challenges that are ahead and that tax reform was on the Governor’s to-do-list.

The night continued with State Senator C.B. Embry thanking Butler County for the continued support and detailed his victory from the previous election.  Embry explained his margin of victory and compared his campaign spending to that of his opponent.  In addition, Embry praised his work on the “right to try” bill, which allows terminally ill patients access to non-FDA approved trial medications.

U.S. Representative Brett Guthrie took the podium next to thank Butler County for its continued support and the friendliness of its residents.  Guthrie explained the situation of the health care bill and the hope for tax reform in the near future.  Guthrie emphasized that the time is now to achieve the campaign promise to “repeal and replace” the Affordable Health Care Act.  “If we can’t get this done, it will demonstrate our parties’ inability to govern”, stated Guthrie.

Kentucky’s Lt. Governor Jenean Hampton concluded the night of speakers explaining the dire need to fix the state’s pension crisis.  Hampton explained that it is a tough job and that “the easiest thing to do, would be to do nothing to fix the problem. Much like the Democrats have done.”

The night concluded with the presentation of Butler County Republican of the Year to Osei Thomas.  Thomas accepted the award and stated, “I will post this on Facebook for all the haters.”
