Butler County Middle School 8th graders Rayna Beller and Reagan West wanted to make a difference in their community.  They saw an opportunity to help with the local Missions backpack program.  This program helps students who are in need by sending food home with them over the weekend.  Rayna and Reagan came up with the idea for change to make a “change”.  They spoke at North Butler, MES and BCMS and began a coin drive.  Students were asked to bring in pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters each day of the week.  The schools surpassed expectations and raised over $688 for the backpack program. The cost to provide food for one student for an entire year is $120.

"We are so proud of these girls for taking initiative and giving back to their community," said BCMS teacher Leslie Wood, who worked with the students on the project.
