The Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce held its first luncheon of 2016 at the Butler County Extension Service office on Thursday, January 28.  Chamber President James Runion welcomed all who attended and First Baptist Pastor, Bro. Greg Wallace, gave the innovation.  The meal was sponsored by Embry & Watts, CPAs; Aberdeen Baptist Church; Butler County Attorney Richard J. Deye; C&L Used Cars; Morgantown Community Church; Logan Telephone Cooperative; Doris Carver/Coldwell Banker; Bluegrass Oral Health Center; and Morgantown Utilities. Catering was provided by Moe’s Southwest Grill.
Runion announced that this year's Catfish Festival will be held July 1st through the 4th. He also stated that the Old Fashion Games will return to the Catfish Festival. He then introduced guest speaker - Butler County Property Valuation Adminstrator (PVA) Suzanne Brosnan. 
“What can your PVA do for you?” asked Brosnan.
She walked the audience through a fifteen question true/false quiz explaining the duties of the PVA and information concerning the office.

“Many people think the PVA sets the tax rates, we do not; the tax rates are set by the different taxing districts,” said Brosnan. 

The current tax rates are: County 8.2, Health 2.25, Library 6.7, Extension 6.8, School 39.10, Ambulance 8.9, State 12.2.

Brosnan also spoke about the homestead exemption, assessing property, and tax bills.
