Private Chesty Ray Phelps

Morgantown has a new Marine, Private Chesty Ray Phelps.  Following in his dad's footsteps, Mayor Billy Phelps' English Bulldog was sworn in on Veterans' Day at the Butler County High School with the NJROTC cadets as witnesses. Major Redmond and Staff Sergeant Jeremy Caraway conducted the enlistment honors.

Chesty is short Lt. Gen. Lewis “Chesty” Puller, Jr., the most decorated Marine in history who earned five Navy Crosses throughout his distinguished military career. Ray is in honor of local VFW Auxiliary Veteran of the Year, Raymond Casson.

"Our goal long-term is to promote Chesty within the school system,  the Marine Corps, and ROTC. We want to use him to promote positivity within our community," said Mayor Phelps.

The English Bulldog is the official mascot of the Marine Corps.
