PREP SOFTBALL: Bears go 2-1 over Spring Break

Bears blank Fort Campbell, 15-0; Chaney homers 
 
MURRAY - The Butler County Bears remained in the win column at the Spring Break Bash at Murray High School on Saturday. In a dominant performance, Butler County blanked Second Region member Fort Campbell 15-0 in three innings.
With the win, Butler County evened its overall record to 2-2.
Fort Campbell dropped to 1-8 with the loss. 
Butler County set the tone early and never faltered. 
The Bears plated 15 runs on nine hits. Hannah Chaney drilled a home run and drove in three of the Bears' 15 runs. 
Olivia Jones finished 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Lady Bears.
Amber Thacker, Aleace Hall and Bayleigh Alford added one hit and two RBIs apiece for Butler County in the convincing victory. Both Hall and Jones connected for a double in Butler County's winning effort.
Aiding the Bears' offensive attack, Autumn Proctor, Dixie Garnier and Tori McKinney provided one hit and one RBI apiece while Ashley Thacker also drove in a run. 
Butler County pitchers Kylee Smith and Evyn Frazier combined to hold Fort Campbell scoreless and hitless. Smith, who registered two strikeouts, earned the win. 
The Butler County and Fort Campbell softball teams aren't scheduled to meet again this season.
 
 

Smith, Bears shut out Livington Central; McKinney homers

MURRAY - The Butler County High School softball team claimed its first win in the 2018 season in convincing fashion. Behind the pitching of junior Kylee Smith, Butler County blanked Livingston Central 11-0 in five innings at the Spring Break Bash at Murray High School on Friday.
The Bears landed in the win column following back-to-back losses to Third Region title contender Daviess County and Hickman County, which was ranked 10th in Class A at the start of the current Kentucky high school softball campaign.
With the win, Butler County improved to 1-2.
Livingston Central slipped to 0-2 with the loss.
Smith was the winning pitcher for the Bears. She worked five innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out four and walking one.
Butler County set the tone early. The Bears moved ahead in the opening inning when Dixie Garnier doubled on a 3-2 count to score two runs. Butler County carried a 4-0 lead out of the first inning and collected multiple hits in each of its four at-bats.
Following a scoreless second inning, Butler County added three more runs in the third inning to move ahead 7-0.
Butler County pushed across four runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding 11-0 lead.
Smith, remaining in control, sat down Butler County in the top half of the fifth inning to force the game to end early via the Mercy Rule.
Livingston Central pitcher Madison Bolte took the loss. Bolte allowed nine hits and seven runs over three and a third innings, striking out two. Sydney Lasher started the game for the Lady Cardinals. Lasher allowed four hits and four runs over two-thirds of an inning, walking one.
Butler County connected for 13 hits. Garnier, Ashley Thacker, Aleace Hall and Tori McKinney's homer led the Bears' offensive attack with two hits apiece. As part of a balanced batting effort, Garnier, Thacker, Hall, McKinney and Bayleigh Alford provided two hits apiece for Butler County in the triumph.
The Bears turned in a near-perfect performance in the field, committing only one error.

 

Bears drop road game at Hickman County

CLINTON - Butler County was limited at the plate as host Hickman County pulled away to win 5-1 in an early-season high school softball game on Thursday.
With the loss, Butler County dropped to 0-2.
Hickman County evened its record to 1-1 with the win.
The Bears led early but couldn't maintain an advantage over homestanding Hickman County.
Visiting Butler County got on the scoreboard first in the top half of the second inning when Dixie Garnier doubled on a 0-1 count to score one run.
However, Hickman County, following back-to-back scoreless at-bats, answered with two runs in the bottom half of the third inning. Rancey Skaggs and Jacey Rushing each provided an RBI single for Hickman County during its third plate appearance.
Hickman County added three runs in the fifth inning. The Lady Falcons' offense in the fifth frame came from doubles by Bella Batts, Mallorie Hobbs and Emma Whitlock.
Gracie Lusk was the winning pitcher for Lady Falcons. Lusk, one of the most experienced softball pitchers in the First Region, allowed three hits and one run over seven innings, striking out 11 and walking one.
Hickman County totaled 12 hits. Skaggs, Rushing and Hobbs all collected multiple hits for the Lady Falcons. Hobbs led Hickman County at the plate, finishing 3-for-3.
Hickman County thrived defensively, turning in an error-free performance.
Garnier went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in Butler County's lone run to lead the Bears' offensive effort.
Tori McKinney singled for Butler County's only other hit.
