Patty Craig : A Slice of Time
During the Christmas season – maybe from Thanksgiving to New Year Day, Christmas programs are abundant. Movies and special programs are available for adults as well as children. Some people make a practice of watching specific movies or television specials each year, creating a tradition.
In an article entitled “The 50 Best Christmas Movies of All Time” (https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/movies/a50565/best-christmas-movie...), the authors identified the following Christmas movies as their top ten:
1.
It's a Wonderful Life
2.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
3.
A Christmas Story
4.
White Christmas
5.
Home Alone
6.
Scrooged
7.
Miracle on 34th St.
8.
Bad Santa
9.
The Muppet Christmas Carol
10.
A Christmas Carol
Other movies that I was happy to see on their list were Elf, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, While You Were Sleeping, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Although I have seen many of the listed movies, I was unfamiliar with some.
Thinking of my favorites, I wondered what others enjoyed. So, I asked friends and family, “What is your favorite Christmas movie or television special?” Their responses are listed below:
-
My favorite Christmas movie is Home Alone! I watch it every year, and it never gets old!

Well, it’s a tradition every year that we watch Christmas Vacation while I put up my Christmas tree. I also love The Grinch (the one with Jim Carrey). I know they aren’t “Christmas movies,” but I always watch Harry Potter movies around Christmas time, too. I’m not sure why!
-
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. We used to watch it every Christmas Eve with my grandparents.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
A memorable quote from How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966) was: “Maybe Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas…perhaps means a little bit more!” There are so many entertaining Christmas programs available that it’s difficult to choose a favorite. Maybe my Christmas tradition could be to watch even more.
