Patty Craig : A Slice of Time

During the Christmas season – maybe from Thanksgiving to New Year Day, Christmas programs are abundant. Movies and special programs are available for adults as well as children. Some people make a practice of watching specific movies or television specials each year, creating a tradition.

In an article entitled “The 50 Best Christmas Movies of All Time” (https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/movies/a50565/best-christmas-movie...), the authors identified the following Christmas movies as their top ten:

1.

It's a Wonderful Life

2.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

3.

A Christmas Story

4.

White Christmas

5.

Home Alone

6.

Scrooged

7.

Miracle on 34th St.

8.

Bad Santa

9.

The Muppet Christmas Carol

10.

A Christmas Carol

Other movies that I was happy to see on their list were Elf, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, While You Were Sleeping, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Although I have seen many of the listed movies, I was unfamiliar with some.

Thinking of my favorites, I wondered what others enjoyed. So, I asked friends and family, “What is your favorite Christmas movie or television special?” Their responses are listed below:

-

My favorite Christmas movie is Home Alone! I watch it every year, and it never gets old!

-

The Christmas Chronicles!

-

I love Christmas Story. I started watching it as a kid with my grandma and watched it every year.

-

 It’s a Wonderful Life.

-

Well, it’s a tradition every year that we watch Christmas Vacation while I put up my Christmas tree. I also love The Grinch (the one with Jim Carrey). I know they aren’t “Christmas movies,” but I always watch Harry Potter movies around Christmas time, too. I’m not sure why!

-

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. We used to watch it every Christmas Eve with my grandparents.

-

A tie between Christmas Vacation and Christmas Story.

-

I have many favorites: Charlie Brown Christmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, It’s a Wonderful Life, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and Scrooged (the Bill Murray version of A Christmas Carol).

-

Scrooged with Murray.

-

(1) Elf, (2) Elf, (3) A Christmas Story, and (4) Elf.

-

Emmett Otter’s Jug Band Christmas.

-

Love Actually or Christmas Vacation.

-

-

It’s a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street.

-

I have so many. I always get excited about watching Tim Allen’s Santa Clause movie though.

-

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

-

Rockefeller Center lighting of the Christmas tree.

-

-

Home Alone 1 & 2!

-

My fav is Elf!

-

-

Frosty the Snowman (oldie, but goodie) or Elf (newer film) – I couldn’t decide.

-

Elf.

-

Elf.

-

The Grinch!

-

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and The Holiday are my movies.

-

Christmas of Many Colors.

-

Everything on Hallmark and A Christmas Story.

-

Die Hard.

-

My favorite Christmas movie would have to be The Grinch (with Jim Carrey).

-

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and “Yes, I’m serious, Clark.”

-

I love Elf and The Grinch pretty much equally.

-

A Charlie Brown Christmas and Miracle on 34th Street are two of my favorites.

-

We always watch Home Alone. That’s when it starts feeling like Christmas time!

-

Christmas Vacation.

-

How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

A memorable quote from How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966) was: “Maybe Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas…perhaps means a little bit more!” There are so many entertaining Christmas programs available that it’s difficult to choose a favorite. Maybe my Christmas tradition could be to watch even more.
