Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

November is a busy month. Not only are winter activities ramping up, but more emphasis is placed on holiday preparation. November is a busy month during a season of change.

Hunting is a popular activity in our state. Butler County hunters may hunt deer of either sex from November 8-17 with a modern gun. Duck hunting season opens November 27th, Thanksgiving Day. And, quail season opens on November 10th (https://app.fw.ky.gov/SeasonDates/Default.aspx).

Although the high school football season will soon come to an end, high school basketball season doesn’t usually begin until December. However, most Kentuckians are aware that the men’s college basketball season has begun. Many of us plan to watch the televised games, and some will travel to the college of their choice to show their support.

Additionally, November is a time of awareness or celebration for a variety of causes/concerns and holidays (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_commemorative_months):
•    Native American Heritage Month
•    Epilepsy Awareness Month
•    National Diabetes Awareness Month
•    Adoption Awareness Month
•    November 9: World Freedom Day
•    November 11: Veterans Day
•    November 14: World Diabetes Day
•    November 15: America Recycles Day
•    November 20: Universal Children’s Day
•    November 21: World Television Day
•    November 25: International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women
•    November 27: Thanksgiving Day
•    Friday after Thanksgiving: Native American Heritage Day

Henry Rollins said, “The month of November makes me feel that life is passing more quickly. In an effort to slow it down, I try to fill the hours more meaningfully” (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/h/henryrolli616900.html). November is a busy month, and I don’t know how to slow it down. So, let’s choose our activities carefully and enjoy them.
