National Donate Life Month

Butler County Judge Executive David Fields and Morgantown Mayor Billy Phelps signed the following proclamation declaring April as National Donate Life Month.  Butler County Circuit Clerk Melissa Cardwell and staff hosted the event.  Cardwell was recently elected president of the Trust for Life Board in Kentucky.

By becoming an organ, eye and tissue donor, one individual can save and heal the lives of more than seventy-five people. During National Donate Life Month, we honor the compassiofj and generosity of registered donors, donor families and living donors, and recognize the commitment of researchers, innovators, champions, national partners and medical professionals who work tirelessly to save and heal lives through transplantation.

Whereas, 116,000 Americans and 1000 in Kentucky are currently on the national transplant waiting list.

Whereas, another person is added to the waiting list every ten minutes, and on average, twenty-two people die every day because the organs they need are not donated in time.

Whereas, the most effective way to address this health crisis is to educate and to encourage citizens to commit to the following actions: register your decision to be an organ, eye and tissue donor in the National Donate Life Registry, RegisterMe.org or at your Butler Co. Circuit Court Clerk's office and learn more about living donation.

Whereas, the Butler County Judge Executive and Mayor of Morgantown feel that the Donate Life cause of saving and healing lives through organ, eye and tissue donation is of such immediate and worthwhile importance that,

NOW THEREFORE, We, David Fields & Billy Phelps with and on behalf of Butler County and Morgantown do Proclaim that the Butler County and Morgantown observes:

April as National Donate Life Month
