Morgantown receives CDBG grant for $237,700 to renovate city hall

Morgantown City Hall will soon be getting a pretty extensive facelift - one to the tune of $237,700.  That is the amount the city will be receiving through a Community Development Block Grant from the Kentucky Department of Local Government.  According to a post on the City of Morgantown’s Facebook page, the money will be used to renovate City Hall in order to comply with modern standards of the Americans With Disabilities Act.  The project will include the repair of the exterior back wall and repairs to the roof.

“City Hall is the heart of downtown Morgantown and we feel its continued existence in its current place is crucial to the prosperity of our district,” said city officials via Facebook.  “Too often we have seen the deterioration and decline of buildings, in ours and other cities, and we feel it absolutely necessary to preserve the culture and historical building infrastructure of our town.”

An elevator with a refinished second floor will be among the new renovations.  Consequently, city council and board meetings are expected to return to city hall for their meeting location.

“The city would like to thank all those who attended public hearings and forums to make this grant a reality,” said city officials.  “Additionally, thanks should go to the BRADD, Melanie Hunt, our city elected officials and the Department for Local Government.”
