Lady Bears fall short against Berea, Clinton County

Lady Bears drop three-point game to Berea


ALBANY — Butler County came up short as Berea held on to win 39-36 in the Best of the Lakes Holiday Classic at Clinton County High School on Wednesday, Dec. 20. 

Following the loss, Butler County slipped to 4-4. 

Berea shot 41.7 percent (15-of-36) from the field. The Lady Pirates made five of 16 three-point field goal attempts. 

Abigail Beard scored 13 points to lead Berea to the win. Beard connected on five of six two-point field goal attempts.

Joining Beard in double figures for Berea, Sophie Brewer netted 12 points. 

Parker Willoughby scored 12 points to lead the Lady Bears. Willoughby was the only Butler County player to reach double figures in scoring. 

Narrowly missing double figures for Butler County, Ava Wilson scored nine points and Ann Marie Skaggs netted eight points.

Accounting for Butler County's other scoring, Taylor Leach added five points and Bailey Moore contributed two points. 

Butler County made eight of 12 free throw attempts in the setback. The Lady Bears suffered the loss despite outrebounding Berea 33-17.

Lady Bears come up short at Clinton County 


ALBANY — Butler County came up short as host Clinton County held on to win 48-45 in the Best of the Lakes Holiday Classic on Thursday, Dec. 21.

Following the loss, Butler County dropped to 4-5.

Clinton County shot 41 percent (16-of-39) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs made five of 16 three-point field goals, shooting 31.2 percent from beyond the arc. 

Clinton County shot 68.8 percent (11-of-16) from the free throw line in its victory. 

Makayla Smith scored a game-high 19 points to lead Clinton County to the win. Smith connected on five of 11 three-point field goal attempts. 

Accompanying Smith in double figures for Clinton County, Landree Moons scored 15 points and Sadie Ipock netted 10 points.

Rounding out Clinton County's scoring, Chloe Longwell and Tatum Harlan chipped in two points apiece. 

Moons recorded a double-double for Clinton County, pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds. 

Butler County shot 25 percent (15-of-60) from the field. The Lady Bears made four of 20 three-point field goal attempts. 

Butler County managed to shoot 61.1 percent (11-of-18) from the free throw line. 

Taylor Leach scored 13 points to lead the Lady Bears. Leach connected on three of 10 three-point field goal attempts.

Finishing directly behind Leach in scoring for Butler County, Ava Wilson netted 12 points. 

In addition to the two scorers in double figures, Parker Willoughby (eight points), Ann Marie Skaggs (seven points), Addison Miller (four points) and Karrington Hunt (one point) produced offensively for Butler County in the matchup. 

Wilson paced Butler County inside, pulling down eight rebounds. 

 

Butler County is scheduled to meet Calloway County in the H&H Holiday Hoopfest at Logan County High School on Wednesday, Dec. 27. Tip-off for the Butler County-Calloway County game is slated for 2:45 p.m.
