Johnsons calling it quits after nearly five decades in the auto parts business

Laymon and Gaylene Johnson

With a career that got its start in 1969, Laymon and Gaylene Johnson are retiring at the end of 2017.  Most recently with Gipe Automotive and Fisher Auto Parts in Morgantown, Laymon,73, and Gaylene,70, actually began working in the auto parts industry in 1969 for Homer Crume at Wholesale Auto in Beaver Dam.  In 1994 they purchased the business from Crume and operated it until 2002.  When Gipe Automotive opened in Morgantown in 2002, Laymon and Gaylene decided to stay a little closer to home and took over management of the Morgantown location.  Fisher bought Gipe in October of 2016.

“We want to thank all our customers for their business, friendship and loyalty over the years,” said Laymon & Gaylene.

To show their appreciation, Fisher Auto Parts will be having a special promotion running December 18-21.  Customers will receive a 10 percent discount on their entire purchase.  Customers are also invited to join Laymon and Gaylene for lunch to wish them a “Happy Retirement” on Thursday, December 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Fisher is located at 220 West G.L. Smith Street in Morgantown.

Laymon and Gaylene, who have worked together for 25 years, have been married for 53 years.  They have three children - Robert, Brian and Brad - seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and plan to do a lot of fishing.

Bobby Moore and Chris Payton will be operating the business beginning in 2018.
