Henderson headed into spring practice at WKU

BOWLING GREEN - Butler County High School graduate Rex Henderson is headed into spring practice with the Western Kentucky University football team. Henderson is a 6-1, 195-pound freshman quarterback. 
Second-year head coach Mike Sanford with guide Henderson and the Hilltoppers into their first spring practice on March 20. Western Kentucky will hold 14 practices leading up to the annual Red vs. White Spring Game on April 21
Admission and parking to the latest edition of the Red vs. White game will be free. The game is slated to kickoff at 2 p.m. at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium. Additional details on the game will be announced at a later date. Henderson is a part of a special squad. The 100th Western Kentucky University football team is poised to take the field in the 2018 season.
Henderson thrived throughout his high school career. A versatile quarterback, Henderson racked up records as a Butler County signal-caller. 
Henderson set several records during his three seasons as starting quarterback for the Butler County gridiron group. 
The current Hilltopper holds Butler County career records for passing yards (7,581 yards), passing touchdowns (77) and points scored (378). Henderson owns single-season highs for touchdown passes (32) and passing yards (3,092). He boasts game-highs for touchdown passes (5), points scored (30) and passing yards (380). 
Henderson led Butler County to the second round of the 2016 Class 2A Playoffs and an 8-4 overall record. During his senior season, Henderson completed 165-of-314 pass attempts for 2,472 yards and 29 touchdowns opposed to only throwing seven interceptions. He also rushed for 1,344 yards and 28 touchdowns during his senior season. 
The Hilltoppers compete in Conference USA, along with Marshall, Charlotte, Old Dominion, FIU, Middle Tennessee, Florida Atlantic, UTEP and Louisiana Tech. 
Western Kentucky concluded the 2017 season 6-7 after falling to Georgia State in the Cure Bowl in Orlando, Fla. in mid-December. The Hilltoppers are scheduled to kick off the 2018 season at Wisconsin on August 31. Western Kentucky's 2018 schedule features additional games versus Maine, Louisville, Ball State, Marshall, Charlotte, Old Dominion, FIU, Middle Tennessee, Florida Atlantic, UTEP and Louisiana Tech. The Toppers are due to host Maine for a home opener on September 8.
