Forgy named to Kentucky Board of Pharmacy

A Morgantown resident has been named to the state board of pharmacy.  Joe D. Forgy, 75, of South Tyler Street, was recently tapped by Governor Matt Bevin to serve on the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy.  Appointed in January 2018, Forgy will serve a four-year term as a citizen representative on the six-member board.  His term will expire in January of 2022.

The Kentucky Board of Pharmacy serves the Commonwealth to promote, preserve, and protect the public health, safety, and welfare through effective regulation of the practice of Pharmacy.

“I strive to appoint honest individuals to represent the best interests of the commonwealth,” said Governor  Bevin.

The Forgy name is a well-known one in Butler and surrounding counties.  In 1942 Joe D.’s father, Joe P. Forgy and wife Virginia opened the Morgantown Drug Company in what was the old Carson Bank building in Morgantown.  Better known as  Forgy’s Drug Store, the family-owned business became a staple of the local community for nearly forty years, 1942-81.  Joe D. began working in the family business as a teenager.  In addition to his father, Joe D. described his mother, Virginia, as a “big cog in the business.”

“I started working at the store helping my father, learning the business, eventually managing the store and assisting with filling prescriptions,” said Forgy.

Forgy has already attended one meeting after being sworn in and taking an oath to both the Kentucky  and U.S. Constitution. The board meets every other month

“I am honored for the governor to appoint me to the board and will do my best to serve the commonwealth and the people of Kentucky for the next four years,” said Forgy.

Joe D. is married to wife Alice Forgy.
