Fiscal Court Makes Donations to Boys & Girls Club & Southern KY 2-1-1, also Approves Social Host Ordinance

Butler County Fiscal Court met in regular session on Monday at the Butler County Courthouse.  All magistrates were in attendance.  

After approving the minutes from the June 26, 2017, and June 30, 2017, meetings, they started with new business before the court.  Fourth District Magistrate David Whittinghill made a motion to approve the second reading and adoption of the Social Host Ordinance.

Rhonda Vaughn and Allie Johnson of Butler County Drug-Free along with high school students Virgina Deweese and Evyn Frazier were in attendance in support of the ordinance.  After a second by Johnny Tuck, the court approved the ordinance by a 5-0 vote.

First District Magistrate Stevie Givens made a motion to approve the second reading and adoption of Hidden Valley Road into the County Road System.  The motion passed by a 5-0 vote.

Butler County Boys and Girls Club Director Jodi Chambers explained to the court that their $12,500 contribution was used to support the daily Power Hour for children to work on homework and improve basic reading and math skills.  

"We serve over 1,000 children a year at the two Clubs," said Chambers. 

 Third District Magistrate Chad Tyree made a motion to approve the appropriation to United Way of Southern Kentucky 2-1-1 of $2,500 which was adopted by a 5-0 vote.

The court approved up to $61,310.80 to Scotty's Contracting for improvements to the Leonard Oak Church Road.

Emergency Management Director Rich Henderson present a document to the Court and County Attorney Dick Deye for consideration concerning the development of a Fire Department Dues Board.  No action was taken concerning this matter.  

Judge David Fields made the court aware of possible problems with the replacement of the air conditioning system in the courthouse.  

"We must make sure the temperature in the Butler County Jail stays below 85 degrees if not, the jail can be closed by the state," said Fields.  " We need to be prepared with some options if that occurs."

According to Jailer Rocky Tyree fans will not work due to no outside circulation.  The court vote 4-1, with Tyree voting no to give Judge Fields the authority to seek a solution to the problem if it should occur.  Tyree stated that he felt like a called meeting to approve the possible cost was a better solution.

Magistrates reviewed the agenda for the Butler County Park North Opening on Saturday, July 15th at 6:00pm.  (3423 Leonard Oak Church Road).  Everyone is invited, free food and music, as well as several door prizes, will be given away.

The Butler County Rescue Squad presented a quote for new doors for their building.  The court asked for a second quote and approved the replacement of the doors by the company with the lowest bid.

The court approved the following:

  • Second reading and adoption of the 911 Ordinance Amendment
  • Extension of fuel agreement with Key Oil for Rochester Ferry
  • Bills and transfers
  • Advertisement of 2016/17 Audit instead of full settlement
  • Treasurer's monthly report, 4th quarter financial statement, 2016/17 annual settlement all subject to audit
  • Litter Abatement payments to Gilstrap Community Center $539 and Temple View Baptist Church $610

The court went into closed session to discuss personnel matters and litigation. Once returning to open session the court hired Willie Nelson Durbin as a Relief Ferry/Park Custodian/Recycle Center employee.  They aslo set a hearing for July 26, 2017 at 5:00pm in the Butler County Courtroom to discuss the application submitted by Richard Ashby dba Cedar Ridge Speedway to operate a motor vehicle racetrack at 3895 Rochester Road.
