February BCNSDAR Celebrates Presidents Day, American Heart and African- American History

Butler County Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution meets every 4th Thursday at the Butler County Public Library . This month we will begin at 5:30 for our meeting,  after which we will adjourn for our speaker, Roger Givens. Roger will be speaking about his latest book, African-American Life in Butler County,  a timely topic. We are delighted to have him, once again, join us as he is also a member of the Samuel Duncan Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.
This month we will also install officers for 2014-2016.
BCNSDAR would love to help you climb through your family tree finding ancestors who played a part, as either as  soldier or paying taxes to support the Revolutionary War effort. This year we have several Genealogy Workshops in the planning for members and the public. There will be an SAR member present to answer questions . BCNSDAR started a group called "Root Seekers" last year and they have been busy on their own supplements, SAR applications and working on  perspective members they will be glad to help.
We do many things throughout the year.  Our annual programs are; Constitution Week , Veterans Breakfast, Flag Day, Memorial Day, Holiday Home Tour, and  Silver Tea to honor Butler County Students. Last  year found us taking on two more programs! Annual Purple Heart Ceremony shared  jointly with the VFW Post 5837 Ladies Auxiliary and the Festival of Trees. This year we had a luncheon in honor of  Barbara Glass Zink KSDAR State Regent. It was well attended and they were so impressed with Morgantown and the Festival. 2013 found us also becoming partners in the Vietnam 50th Commemoration;  please watch  for announcements concerning this tribute.
So, come and join us  in promoting Home, God and County through the Daughters of the American Revolution. For those of you who still think it is your Grandmothers society, we have come along way and now even take DNA to help prove lineage!
Hope to see you at the next meeting!
