Don Elmore refurbishes American Flag Box as community project

Boy Scout Don Elmore, of Troop 208, unveiled the American Flag Retirement Box on Saturday, November 18th at the Morgantown Mission building. The box, purchased by the VFW Auxiliary Post 5837, was refurbished by Elmore as a community project.

Lynda Knight, Americanism Chairperson of VFW Auxiliary, welcomed a large crowd to the ceremony.  Boy Scout Troop 208 presented the colors and Elmore led the pledge.  Racheal Johnson sang the National Anthem.  The Eagle Scouts demonstrated the proper folding of the American Flag and explanation of each fold.


Sherry Webster, President of the VFW Auxiliary Post 5837, presented Elmore with a certificate of appreciation.


The box was placed in the Butler County Courthouse lawn near the Memorial Wall.


Flags were donated by Morgantown City Councilman Dustin "Hog" Embry and Kristi, Mayor Billy Phelps, Judge-Executive Candidate Richie Bratcher, Jailer Candidate Ricky Romans and Kay, B.C. Arts Guild, Marty Jones and Jones Funeral Chapel, and Double E Vending and they were given as door prizes.

"VFW Auxiliary Post 5837 thanks the scouts for teaching us how to properly dispose flags." said Jennifer Odle.
