Creating Blessings...one stitch at a time

What an exciting time! This coming Saturday June 2nd the Green River Museum at Woodbury opens for the season. There will be new exhibits, music by Mark Mudd and Family, Colin Coots and Kenny Johnson, homemade food, a Shogun food truck and a silent auction featuring the work of local artisans.  There will be paintings by local artists, pottery made by Suzanne Renfrow, and baskets filled with good things. Last year there was a basket with Tunisian crochet dish cloths and kitchen towels, a shawlette and cute earrings that looked like tiny skeins of yarn knit and spun by the donor, a wool hooked pillow, a wool penny rug, a Swedish embroidery pillow, many crochet items in a handmade basket made with vines harvested by the donor, a lap quilt, a tin chandelier, tiny painted gourds, a hand-tiled mirror, a vintage picnic basket with picnic supplies, a tea party in a basket and one with enough plants to start a flower garden.   I expect this year there will be just as many exciting things. Many of the donors are happy to talk to visitors and explain how things are made too. This is a wonderful opportunity to support local artists and the Green River Museum with your participation in the silent auction.  All funds raised go to the museum.

Reminder:  The Catfish Festival is July 4-7. Entries for Adult classes are due at the end of June at the Extension office. Entry forms and packets can be picked up there.  I usually enter something I have knit or crocheted because I want all the Butler County Knitters and Crocheters to enter some of their best work, but I think I will enter some jelly too.  I already have some taste testers volunteered – we’ll see. Maybe Cheryl Porter will enter some of her wonderful paintings or photography. This is a fun time and place for all Butler Countians to show off their hobbies.
We are still working on summer colored baby hats for the newborns at the Medical Center and the supply of hats and scarves for the Christmas tree is building up.  Kathy Vernon has created a beautiful pair of crochet socks, custom made to fit her feet, and Maurleen Jasmine made a beautiful shawl/bed cover for her granddaughter. I will try to add pictures.
Invitation: Everyone is welcome to join our group of knitters and crocheters. We meet each Monday at 11 am in the meeting room of the Butler County Library. We will help you with one of your projects or you can help us with one of ours, we often have donated yarn to use on our projects.  Beginners we have supplies to get you started, we can show you much more than just knitting and crocheting too. We are a casual group, no dues or fees. Come on in, ask questions, and get started. We enjoy learning something new too.

Have a wonderful week, and bless someone with the work of your hands.
