Christine Bratcher: Creating Blessings, One Stitch At A Time

Swedish Weaving Sampler

The Butler County Knitters and Crocheters meet at the Butler County Library each Monday at 11 am until noon.  It is a walk-in type group. Just come on in if you are interested or just want to visit. We have teachers for many types of knitting and crocheting and embroidery, a little sewing (advice mainly). Needlepoint, felting, temari, cross-stitch on cardstock for gift tags, tatting (we are looking for a teacher), and we are talking about trying rug hooking cutting our own strips of wool.  We will try just about anything a person can think up.

Prayer Shawl

We have some donated yarn, hooks and needles for beginners and we always accept donations of hooks and yarn (not tangled or dirty please, we just aren’t able to wash it).  We make things for ourselves and our grandchildren, some we will enter in the Catfish Festival coming up real soon. The deadline for entries is June 29.  A very large portion of our work is donated. Right now we are finishing up a project of supplying 20” x 50” shawls in bright colors for the ends of the beds for the people in the therapy section at the nursing home. These are big enough to be used as shawls around the shoulders or even light cover-ups.  In May was supplied the Medical Center with hats for the newborns in honor of Mother’s Day. We could not possibly do this without the help of our friends who don’t actually meet with us. There are over 200 babies born there each month. We would like to do it again in fall colors if anyone wants to start now.

An ongoing project is making hats scarves and ear warmers to be distributed locally at Christmas time. First, we decorate a tree during the Festival of Trees, then all the things we have made go to a central point to be distributed. This is for children of school age, and again our friends help us a lot, some from other states. We appreciate them all.

When called on for something special, hats for cancer patients, baby hats sweaters and booties for Ft. Campbell, lap robes for the nursing home, water filter covers for Haiti, prayer shawls, we are happy that we can be called on to help.

Please stop in and say hi any Monday, and be a blessing…
