CCD Classes at Holy Trinity

CCD classes were began this fall at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Morgantown. Even though Holy Trinity is a small parish nestled in Morgantown, it is growing and has been blessed with so many Hispanic children. This allows the church to have four CCD classes this year with ages from 7 to 18-years old. The students, who are working toward the Sacraments, are filled with enthusiasm of learning and socializing every Saturday morning. Along with Sister Aida, Holy Trinity has six teachers who are excited to work with the children of the church.

"We are happy to be given the opportunity to help them grow in their Catholic faith and, as well, they are a great blessing to each of one of us," said Gina Wylie, one of the CCD teachers.

The acronym CCD, Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, is religious education to Catholic children attending secular school. The Apostles' Creed and the Lord's Prayer formed the general basis of Catholic religious instruction in the 13th century. All the faithful within the Catholic Church had to know them by heart.  The parish priests were commanded to explain the Apostles' Creed and the Lord's Prayer on Sundays and festivals. Eventually the Commandments, the Sacraments, virtues and vices were also added to religious instruction.

”Thanks to God, and all his blessings, we are here eight centuries later with the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine," said Wylie.

Holy Trinity Catholic Church is located at 766 Logansport Road, Morgantown, Kentucky.  Sunday Mass times are 8:00 a.m. (English) and 9:15 a.m. (Spanish).  Fr. Jean Rene Kalombo is the pastor.
