Candidate Kevin Jay Phelps- 2nd District Magistrate

I am Kevin Jay Phelps, Republican candidate for 2nd District Magistrate. I have lived in Butler County for most of my life. I have been married to Debi Hartis Phelps for 43 years, and we have lived and raised our family in Butler County. Debi has worked at Butler County Farm Bureau since 1991. We live on Jack Orange Rd where we farm cattle and hay.  We have three children, Brandon, Bryan, and Courtney.  Brandon is married to Pam Tomes Phelps, Brandon works at ARC and Pam works at Dr. Hammads. They have two children Anna Claire and Alex.  Bryan is married to Rachel Williams Phelps, Bryan works at ARC and Rachel works at Morgantown Elementary.  They have three sons, Layton, Garrett, and Deacon.  Courtney is married to Jon Calloway, and Courtney works at the Medical Center, and Jon works for Hope House.  They have three children, Caroline, Max, and Maddie. Our eight grandchildren are our pride and joy. I am a proud parent and Grandparent. I know what it takes to raise a family and to succeed in life. The Lord has blessed us so much.

I am a member of Richland Baptist Church, where I serve as a Deacon, a Sunday school teacher and I am also a member of the Butler, Edmonson Gideon camp.  I have served as a past President of the Butler County Stockman’s Association, and I am a current member.

Why am I running for Magistrate?
I retired in April of 2017, and I am ready to go to work for Butler County. I care what happens in Butler County, and I would like to make things better for my family, friends, neighbors, and fellow Butler Countians.
I developed strong work ethics at an early age.  I worked in tobacco, hay, and other jobs to have spending money while in school.  I still maintain those strong work ethics.

I have always had leadership roles where I worked from Foreman, Mine Supervisor, Project Manager, General Manager, and Division Manager. I have worked both Union and Non-Union Employees.  My division had over a 20 million dollar operating budget, and I was a part of the budget process.  I have done large construction projects which range 1.5 million to 3 million dollars in the scope of work. I have had to keep in compliance with all Local, State, and Federal regulations. I have negotiated contracts with companies and municipalities. I have been a part of buying and maintaining equipment.  I have trained employees on safety, and job tasks. I have been a certified Landfill manager in KY and IN for 25 years and have never received an NOV (Notice of Violations) under my management.

Why not let me go to work for Butler County and 2nd District using my leadership skills, job experience, and knowledge to make the right decisions for Butler County.  I do have the time and will apply myself to do whatever it takes to make our county better.  I will work with the other elected officials with an open mind doing what is right.  I will work to get the respect of the people of Butler County and will represent the people in a way that will make Butler County proud.

If elected I will push our Court to go after and pursue any Grants, Federal and State Monies that are available to help and improve our County. I will work with our Industry and corporate citizens to improve relations and will strive to get new industries to locate in Butler County so the people of Butler County will have more and better opportunities.
