Cameron, GOP slate rolls in Butler County

Statewide, Beshear defeats Cameron but Republicans sweep remainder of races for Constitutional offices

---

The Republican ticket of Daniel Cameron and Robby Mills easily carried Butler County in yesterday's General Election with nearly 68 percent of the vote over Democratic incumbent Governor Andy Beshear and his running mate, Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman.  Cameron tallied 2,475 votes to 1,173 for Beshear.  Nevertheless, Beshear won statewide with a little over 52 percent of the vote and will serve as governor for another four years.  Beshear's significant margins in most urban areas of the state helped pave the way for his successful reelection.

According to Butler County Clerk Sherry Johnson, local voter turnout was approximately 38 percent.

The rest of the races for Constitutional offices went heavily for the GOP candidates, both locally and statewide.

Incumbent Secretary of State Michael Adams, a Republican, received 80 percent of the Butler County vote, easily defeating Democrat Charles "Buddy" Wheatley.

Republican Russell Coleman had over 78 percent of the vote locally, soundly defeating Democrat Pamela Stevenson in the race for attorney general.  This position was open due to current Attorney General Daniel Cameron running for governor.

Allison Ball, a Republican and current state treasurer, defeated her Democratic opponent, Kimberley "Kim" Reeder, with 82 percent of the vote in the race for auditor.

Republican Mark H. Metcalf received over 78 percent of the vote in his race for state treasurer (Ball was term-limited), handily defeating Democrat Michael Bowman.

In the race for agriculture commissioner, Jonathan Shell, former Republican Majority Leader in the General Assembly, tallied over 80 percent of the vote, easily dispatching Democrat Sierra J. Enlow.
