Butler County softball team advances to 3rd Region Semifinals

CALHOUN - Butler County passed its first test in the 3rd Region Softball Tournament at McLean County on Monday afternoon, pulling away to defeat Meade County 9-4.
Thriving late, Butler County scored eight of its nine runs over the last three innings.


With the opening round win, Butler County improved to 19-10 and advances to the 3rd Region Tournament Semifinals. Meade County ended its season 19-17 with the loss.
Each team collected 14 hits. But Meade County struggled defensively, committing four errors.
Butler County pitcher Kylee Smith threw a complete game and earned the win. Smith allowed four runs on 14 hits over seven innings, striking out three and walking zero.
Meade County pitcher Mary Morgan tossed a complete game and took the loss. Morgan allowed nine runs on 14 hits while striking out six.


Hannah Chaney helped to lead Butler County at the plate, smacking a home run for the Bears in the seventh inning.
Chaney, Amber Thacker, Tori McKinney and Dixie Garnier each provided multiple hits for the Bears. Thacker paced Butler County at the plate, finishing 4-for-4.
Chaney and Garnier provided three RBIs apiece while Aleace Hall drove in two runs for the Bears.
Butler County overcame two errors to notch the win.
Morgan, Makaya Bloomfield, Lauren Sutton and Kelsey Knott each delivered multiple hits for Meade County in the season-ending setback.
Butler County is scheduled to face the winner of the Apollo-Ohio County game in the semifinals of the 3rd Region Softball Tournament. The time of Butler County's next game in the 3rd Region Softball Tournament has not yet been finalized.
