Butler County Schools: 2014-2015 KPREP

The 2014-2015 Unbridled Learning Accountability test data Kentucky Performance Rating for Educational Progress (K-PREP) has been released. The data covers several areas:  student achievement, gap, student growth, graduation rate and college and career readiness for districts and schools.

Schools are rank-ordered by overall score and by level (elementary, middle, and high). Districts are rank-ordered without dividing by levels.  Schools and districts are placed in one of three classifications based on their percentile rankings. The classifications are distinguished (which is at or above the 90th          percentile), proficient (at the 70th-89th percentile) and needs improvement (which is below the 70th percentile). Percentile in Kentucky compares                 performance to a locked percentile generated in 2013. The locked percentile creates an overall score target for schools by level and districts to reach Proficient and Distinguished.

We are excited to report our district is one of the 120 districts in Kentucky and two of our schools were in the 704 schools in Kentucky that earned the distinction of Proficient on the 2014-15 KPREP.  Butler County School District is classified as a Proficient district with an increase in the overall score of 66.5 and a percentile rank of 72.  Butler County High has an overall score of 70.8 with a 72 percentile ranking and is classified as Proficient.  The high school’s  overall score was an increase from previous year score of 64.5.  North Butler Elementary is also classified as a Proficient/Progressing school.  The overall  score for NBE was 67.8, an increase from previous year score of 66.1 and has a  percentile ranking of 72. The school earned the additional label of Progressing  due to meeting the school’s Annual Measurable Objective (AMO) and student participation rate. Morgantown Elementary had an increase in the overall score of 61.2 to 62.4 and had a percentile ranking of 50 and met their AMO  and participation rate. The classification for MES is Needs Improvement    /Progressing.  Butler County Middle School had a slight decrease in the overall score from 65.3 to 64.7 with the percentile ranking of 64 and has a  classification of Needs Improvement.  The middle school was just short of reaching proficiency by 1.1 points.  The cut score was 65.8 and they were 64.7.

The number of students that exited our school system being College and/or Career Ready increased from 60.9% to 70.1%. Our graduation rate increased from 91.2% to 92.5% but fell short of our target rate of 93.8%.

Butler County faculty and staff continue to work hard each and every day to provide all students with the academic, social and emotional support that is needed to prepare them to be successful in whatever path they decide to take whether it be college or career.
“I am so proud of each school in our district.  Their hard work and commitment to students is evident in the release of the K-PREP data.  While I do not believe test scores are the only way a school or district should be judged, it is great for all of the students and staff to have their hard work validated by the test data that is being released.  Congratulations to North Butler Elementary, Butler County High School, and the Butler County School District on being named Proficient”, says Superintendent Howard.
