Butler County NSDAR Celebrates Constitution Week September 17-23

The Butler County NSDAR will be holding its annual Constitution Week program at Morgantown Elementary school on Wednesday, September 17. This program would not be possible without the invaluable help and dedication of Linda Tyree and Jo Lynn Reed.
Bells Across America will ring in Constitution Week and the day’s celebrations at 8:00 AM.
The Star Spangled Banner program will once again be presented to the MES 2nd graders. Jo Lynn Reed will read the book, The Flag We Love, by Pam Munoz Ryan. Lois Russ, Flag Chairman, will then present the American Flag Code and the proper respect due the American Flag.   Jane Eaton-Henderson, Regent, will give pointers on drawing the flag as these  students will  be eligible  to enter the “Art for Heroes” program in 2015 .
“Art for Heroes” is open to all third grade students and the theme for 2014 is “My Beautiful America”. “Art for Heroes” will also be available to Catron Burdette’s, BCHS Art teacher, students and Art Club who will also be participating in an art project for the Vietnam 50th Commemorative Anniversary.  Art will be displayed at BCDAR Veterans breakfast on November 8, at 9:00 AM, at the BCH Commons. The 1,2,3 place winners are chosen by the Veterans attending and will be announced at the annual “Salute Our Veterans Program” at the BCHS on November 11, at 9:00 AM. "Art for Heroes” was started several years ago as a stepping stone to the VFW Patriotic Art Contest offered at the High School level, where participants are eligible for monetary scholarships. Butler County had three entries in 2014 and one went on to the district level. We are delighted this year to have them join the Art for Heroes and the Butler County NSDAR JAC program.
“Buddy Poppy Good Citizen 2014” will be selected from the 5th grade classes in both MES and North Butler. Each fifth grader has the chance to become a “Buddy Poppy Good Citizen” by interviewing a Veteran, asking questions listed and writing a 25 word or fewer essays on their experience.  They are also to tell 5 or more people about the Buddy Poppy and what it stands for.  This year there will be extra points for interviewing a Vietnam Veteran as Butler County NSDAR celebrates the Vietnam 50th Commemorative Anniversary. The winners will participate in Patriotic events throughout the year.
“Art for Heroes” and “Buddy Poppy Good Citizen” are programs the Butler County NSDAR and VFW Post 5837 Ladies Auxiliary sponsor jointly to instill patriotism through knowledge of our Flag, Constitution and the men and women who fought in 1776 and still fight today to keep us free.
“Patriots Trivia”will be presented to the fourth and fifth grade classes. We have set aside for this year” Women of the Revolution” and students will take an active part. Once again, the Butler County NSDAR ladies, in period costumes, will portray important patriots from the Revolution. Members of the newly formed SAR chapter, of Butler County, will also take part.
New this year will be the Butler County NSDAR sponsored essay contest for the 8th graders at Butler County Middle school. The winning essay will be read at the Salute Our Veterans Program on Tuesday, November 11.
Please join us in Celebrating America and giving a ringing endorsement to our 227 year old Constitution on September 17 at 8:00 AM in “Bells Across America”.

Let’s CELEBRATE AMERICA!
