Butler County Drug-Free Community Coalition

The Butler County Drug-Free Coalition met on July 27th at the conference room of the Butler County Educational Complex.  Director Rhonda Vaughn called the meeting to order and reminded everyone of the Back-to-School Bash on Tuesday, August 2nd at Morgantown City Park. The Bash starts at 6:00 pm with free swimming, food, and school supplies for Butler County Students.  According to Daisy Bishop, former Family Resource Center Coordinator,  over 450 students attended last year.
Treasurer Eric Elms gave the treasurer's report.
Karla Coles, director of Youth Service Center, gave a presentation on how to effectively work with faith-based organizations to address substance abuse in the community.  The coalition agreed they needed to develop a presentation concerning the misuse of prescription drugs for community groups.
Housing Authority Director Anita Jenkins shared upcoming changes for residents.  "HUD has approved a mandatory no-smoking policy for all units effective April 2017," said Jenkins.  " We know it will be hard for our residents, and we want to offer Smoking Cessation Classes."
Butler County Drug-Free Coalition's focus is to bring awareness and prevention strategies for abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and prescription drugs.
