Butler County Chapter NSDAR Christmas Tour

Salem Baptist Church

The Butler County Chapter NSDAR is pleased to include the Salem Baptist Church in their Christmas Tour this year. When you visit the Matthew and Kathy Hampton home in the Logansport community be sure to stop at the church for their open house from 1-4:00 PM on Sunday, December 3 for a tour and fellowship.

Salem Baptist Church located at 6407 Logansport Rd is about 7 miles from Morgantown. Organized in 1838. As a result of a great revival some of the congregation from Beaver Dam Church in Ohio County Kentucky were commissioned to constitute a new independent body known as Salem in the Big Bend of the Green River. The church originally met in a small log building.
In 1849 a combination school-church building was built. In 1857 the church built another meeting place separate from the schoolhouse. This structure was completed in 1860. In 1905 the church purchased land on the south side of the road and commenced building the church building that stands today. It was dedicated in 1915. Various improvements, like Sunday School rooms, were made over the years to the original structure.
100 years later the church broke ground on a new space for ministry. This additional space was completed in the summer of 2016. This new building is adjacent to the sanctuary. Its use is for fellowship meals, bible school, children and adult Sunday School classes, weddings, community use, for youth gatherings and for all kinds of things that haven’t been dreamed up yet! The church intends for it to be a “useful” space. Useful for how together we can; serve God, make our community better, and actively bring about God’s Kingdom here on earth!

Visit the home of Matthew and Kathy Hampton in the Logansport community, where they farm growing corn and soybeans and raising cattle. Their home was built about 80 years ago and was owned by Pascal and Vera Dabbs. Matthew remembers visiting the Dabbs couple and sharing birthday cake when he was young. Their home is furnished with a variety of antiques which they have collected, including many old advertisement signs. The Hampton home will be a delight to visit as you enjoy Christmas in the Country at 7138 Logansport Road.
