Butler County Chapter NSDAR attend 2nd District meeting

Regent Lynda O'Driscoll, Gail Gaddie, Debbie Rose-Whorley, and Gladys Brooks

Members of the Butler County Chapter NSDAR attended the 2nd District meeting and luncheon sponsored by the Grayson Springs Chapter on November 4, 2023, in Leitchfield. The meeting was attended by several chapters in the 2nd District as well as State Committee Chairs. Among the guests was KSDAR Director for the district, Sharon Williams from Elizabethtown who brought greetings from KSDAR leaders and told of many activities that were going on in other chapters around the state. She encouraged members to be involved in their communities and provide support and recognition for our military veterans.

Another guest speaker at the meeting was Leitchfield VFW Post #12175 Commander Leo Chism. He told of how their local VFW supports area veterans as well as other community organizations. He said that as suicide among veterans seems to be raging in the country local members are reaching out to those in the area who may be suffering from depression. Commander Chism spoke of one veteran in particular, age 85 who had suffered from depression for 30+ years, spending most of his time alone. After visits from himself, his spouse, and other veterans, the gentleman has become another person, attending community functions, VFW meetings and is one of the first to volunteer in all events. He also now helps other veterans who may be experiencing depression and having suicidal thoughts. He was appreciative of the help the DAR ladies continue to give to our veterans.

Attending the meeting from the Butler County Chapter were members Gladys Brooks, Linda Deweese, Debbie Rose-Worley, Gail Gaddie and Regent Lynda O’Driscoll.
