Butler County Bears Softball gets 5-1 win over Trinity in district play

An impressive two-way performance from senior pitcher Kassie Phelps led the Butler County Bears softball team to a 5-1 win Tuesday over Trinity, as Phelps came up huge at the dish and on the rubber.

Phelps had two extra-base hits for the Bears. She singled in the second inning and doubled in the fourth and fifth innings.

Phelps kept contact to a minimum, striking out seven Trinity batters. She allowed no earned runs, five hits and no walks over seven innings.

Trinity managed to score one run in the first inning on an RBI-single by Nina Wathen.

Butler County went up for good in the third, scoring one run on a groundout by Cheyenne White.

The Bears tacked on another two runs in the fifth. White started the inning with a single, scoring Madison "Boo" Clark. That was followed up by Phelps' double, plating Maddie McKinney.

Butler County had 12 hits for the game.  Madison Clark (2-1B), Kassie Phelps (1-1B, 2-2B, RBI), Cheyenne White (1-1B, 2-RBI), Abigail Fry (1-1B, 1-2B), Zoie Pendley (1-1B, 1-2B), Emily Rich (1-1B, 1-RBI), and Maddie McKinney (1-1B).

Butler County (24-11) faces Grayson County tonight in the 12th District Championship.  Grayson defeated Edmonson County 5-3 on Tuesday.  Both Butler and Grayson will advance to the Third Region Tournament next week at Edmonson County.
