Beginning Beekeeping Program Registration Nears

People interested in keeping honeybees have the opportunity to participate in a short-course that will help them learn to be a beekeeper.  The Butler County Extension Service will provide a top notch learning experience that will help participants be ready to have their own beehives.  The program will cover bee biology and the different types of bees, all the different beekeeping equipment, a hands on session where all the parts of the hive are assembled, a session on management of hives during a beekeeping year, and a hands on session where we work some hives and participants can see for themselves what a beehive looks like on the inside.  The sessions are in Butler County and most are at the extension office.  The registration fee is $50 for the entire program.  The class will meet 5 times between November 14th and mid-April.  Each class will begin at 6:00 p.m. and finish at 8:00 p.m.  The registration deadline is November 7 and class size is limited do to the hands on nature of this program.  To sign up for the Beginning Beekeeping Program call the extension office at 526-3767.
