Beekeeping and Vegetable Trainings Offered at Extension Office

Beekeeper installs a new package of honeybees

On April 12, 2018 there are two training opportunities being offered at the Butler County Extension Office.  April 12, at 9:00 a.m. Kentucky Produce Best Practices Training will be offered.  This is a food safety training designed for anyone that will be selling fresh food to the public.  Most of the clientele will be farmers that are looking to sell Fruits and Vegetables that they produce on their farm.  The training covers how to protect consumers from food borne illness.  A certificate of completion of the training will be provided for those that attend.  This certificate is required by many markets were fresh produce is sold.  It is also required for farmers to get a sampling permit that allows them to offer samples at a farmer’s market of roadside stand.  There is no cost to attend.

An April 12, at 6:00 p.m. a Beginning Beekeeping Crash Course will be offered at the Extension Office.  Attendees will learn the basics of keeping honeybees for honey production.  We will cover many aspects of beekeeping and demonstrate a lot of equipment that beekeepers use.  Anyone considering keeping bees should attend this training.  There is no charge to attend.
